Monthly pension paid to the surviving married spouse or common-law partner of a Canada Pension Plan contributor. At 65 or older it is 60% of the deceased's retirement pension; before 65 it combines a flat-rate portion and 37.5% of that pension. Back payments are limited to 12 months.

How to apply
Apply as soon as possible after the death: back payments cover only 12 months.
Provide proof of the marriage or common-law relationship and the death certificate.
Report any other CPP benefit already received: the combined benefit is capped.
