PREMIUM-FREE Alberta plan covering, for people 65 and older registered with the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan, prescription drugs and health services the medical plan does not pay for. The drug co-payment is 30% to a maximum of $35 per prescription effective April 1, 2026. Diabetes supplies are covered to $2,400 per person per benefit year, psychological services to $60 per visit and $300 per family, home nursing care to $200 per family, chiropractic to $25 per visit and $200 per person. Ground ambulance is paid in full.

How to apply
Have active AHCIP coverage and have your age validated with the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan.
Coverage is added automatically on the first day of the month after the 65th birthday; a package is mailed up to 6 months before.
Show your card at the pharmacy or provider: the 30% co-payment, capped at $35, is applied directly.
