Work and employment · Tout le Canada
Federal benefits for people who lost their job through no fault of their own — shortage of work, mass layoff, end of season — and who are ready to work and actively looking for it. You need between 420 and 700 hours of insurable employment in the 52-week qualifying period, depending on your region's unemployment rate, and to have been without work and without pay for at least 7 consecutive days.

How to apply
Ask your employer for the record of employment, then apply online with Service Canada as soon as you stop working.
Check the insurable hours required in your region: 420 hours where unemployment is above 13%, up to 700 hours where it is 6% or less.
Keep a written record of the employers you contact and file a report every two weeks, or benefits stop.
