One-time $1,200 payment the Government of British Columbia deposits into the RESP of a child resident in the province. No contribution is required: the grant needs no matching or additional payment. The application is made between the child's 6th birthday and the day before they turn 9, through a participating financial institution. The RESP lifetime contribution limit stays at $50,000 per child, and an RESP can remain open for up to 36 years.

How to apply
Open an RESP for the child at a financial institution that offers the grant.
Apply between the child's 6th birthday and the day before they turn 9; the parent or guardian and the child must be B.C. residents with a valid SIN.
No contribution is required to receive the $1,200.
