Family support · Tout le Canada
Federal non-refundable tax credit for a person without a spouse who alone supports a dependant living in their home — most often a single parent with a child. You must not have claimed the spouse amount, must have maintained the home where the dependant lived, and the dependant's net income must be less than the basic personal amount, plus $2,687 if they have an impairment. Only one claim per household, and the amount cannot be split: it is computed on Schedule 5.
Eligibility conditions
Eligible family status (single-parent family)
Have one or more eligible dependent children
How to apply
Check that there is no spouse: the amount is barred if the spouse amount is claimed, or if you lived with and supported a spouse.
Check the relationship: parent or grandparent, or child, grandchild or sibling under 18, or 18 and over with an impairment.
Complete Schedule 5 to compute the amount: it cannot be split, and only one claim per household is allowed.
